Important information on recent fake email activity

A number of UK banks have recently been targeted by fraudsters using emails to ask customers to enter their security details into a fake website. These are known as phishing emails.

Phishing involves the use of a fake email and fraudulent website that appears to be from an Internet Service Provider, a bank or a retail outlet, to persuade customers to provide their personal financial details, giving fraudsters access to their online accounts.

Some of the tell-tale signs of a phishing email include:

  • A general greeting (e.g. Dear customer)
  • Offering fake reasons for inputting personal details (E.g. To verify security details)
  • A link to another site that requests personal details
  • Incorrect spellings and poor grammar

Here are some simple points to remember to help avoid becoming a victim of phishing:

  • A genuine Alliance & Leicester email will always greet customers by their name
  • Alliance & Leicester will never email you to ask you to verify your personal or security information
  • Alliance & Leicester emails will never link you to Internet banking

How to report a suspicious email:

  • If you receive an email claiming to be from Alliance & Leicester that you are suspicious about, please forward it to suspiciousemails@alliance-leicester.co.uk
  • If you are worried that someone may already have your personal security details, then please contact us on
    0844 800 11 44 (please dial +44 870 900 1199 if calling from outside the UK)
